Chosen Family (Pride 2024 Remixes)

“Where do I belong?”

This question opens the touching and heartfelt anthem “Chosen Family,” and it is one that far too many LGBTQ+ people have had to ask themselves as they navigate existing authentically in a world that still largely sees them as “other.” The query pops up constantly in the lives of those who identify as part of the community, as they can so often feel uninvited, excluded, or unwelcome at school, in the workplace, or worst of all, at home. According to the Trevor Project, queer youth are “more than four times as likely” to have attempted suicide compared to heterosexual youth.

Shauna Jensen became aware of the Rina Sawayama 2020 hit ballad when good friend DJ Wayne G brought it to her. Wayne saw the track’s potential and eventually, the two decided to record a dance floor version of it to coincide with Sydney World Pride 2023.

Produced together with Wayne G and Andy Allder, It was an intercontinental project as Jensen recorded vocals in Australia, Wayne & Andy produced the music in the UK, and the three worked as a team over the magic that is the internet to create the final version. Along with the Original Club Mix, the Big Room, Tech House, Disco House, and Funky House Remixes are now available on Swishcraft Music.

Bourgie Bourgie

“M is For Motion” explores a diverse range of music within the Disco, House, and Afro Beats genres. Mixing songs from different eras along with newer tunes allows for a dynamic musical journey that showcases the evolution and fusion of these genres over time. Disco, with its vibrant rhythms and infectious melodies, laid the foundation for both House and Afro Beats, making it a fitting starting point for such a project.

House music, born out of the club culture of Chicago in the 1980s, has since become a global phenomenon, continuously evolving with various sub-genres and influences. Afro Beats, on the other hand, draws its roots from African music traditions and has gained popularity worldwide, blending traditional rhythms with contemporary sounds.

By blending tracks from each era and incorporating new tunes that explore these genres, “M is For Motion” offers a diverse and immersive musical experience. It’s a celebration of the rich tapestry of sounds and rhythms, showcasing their ability to move both body and soul.

M’s initial work is with House Diva Amuka reworking her 90’s monster house track Appreciate Me. M has returned with a new track with Amuka revisiting the Disco era track “Bourgie Bourgie” written by Ashford & Simpson. “Bourgie Bourgie” is a disco song released in 1977 by the disco group Ashford & Simpson. The term “Bourgie” is derived from “bourgeois” and is often used to describe someone or something that is perceived as being middle class or aspiring to a higher social status. In the context of the song, “Bourgie Bourgie” is about the pursuit of material wealth and social status, with lyrics that touch on themes of ambition, luxury, and the desire for success. The song became popular in the disco scene of the late 1970s and early 1980s and has been covered by John Davis & The Monster Orchestra and by Glady’s Knight & The Pips. This new version contains fresh Remixes from Matt Consola, Dirty Disco, Larry Peace, Ale Maes & Johnny Bass, Nick Bertossi, and DJ Industrial Badger.

Upcoming projects in the works include Barbara Tucker, Debby Holiday, Janice Robinson, Dawn Tallman, Val Young, Zhana Roiya, Yu Freakah, Sofiya Nazu, Kelo, Chief Madness, Lucy, and more.

Live Your Life

San Francisco Bay Area house icon BB Hayes follows up his massive 2023 hit “How Long (Has This Been Going On” with this Original production “Live Your Life.” Once again teaming up with vocalist Jemma Jones, Hayes crafts an infectious track with pulsating beats, pumping percussion and infectious rhythms to create a track that is guaranteed to go off in every set.

A couple of banging variations by Henry Navarro, Rafael M, Larry Peace, Drew G, and Big Room Latin House powerhouse Jesus Montañez truly takes this bangin’ hit to unexpected territory.

Go The Distance

I vividly remember my first time hearing “Go The Distance”.  Disney had just released the animated feature of Hercules and Michael Bolton recorded an adult contemporary edit of the track to accompany the film’s soundtrack.  Alan Menkin is a master at composing incredibly catchy melodies and the opening fanfare of this song made such a dramatic impact, it stayed stuck in my head for weeks.   The lyrics of this song are remarkably uplifting.  Our present-day day news cycles can be so dreary & depressing, I knew I wanted to produce a big-room style remake of this song with its inspirational and positive message- with Pride celebrations and Summer tea dances in mind.  I’ve had the pleasure (and good fortune) of working with Toy Armada recently on a handful of other projects, and knew from the very beginning that I wanted to complete this project with him.  The chord progressions of this track are quite complex and dynamic.  Toy is a composer in his own right, and his signature sound of symphonic orchestral instrumentals layered with our house bass lines & drums are just ideal for this track.

I wanted the message of the song to be told with a female voice.  When I was discussing this project with a fellow producer friend of mine, the words I used when describing the vocal were “powerhouse” and able to “belt it out” in a soaring classic house style.  My friend said, “You know you just described Inaya, right?”  When Inaya Day agreed to sign on as our vocalist and co-producer, I was thrilled.  Her vocal talent is not only exactly what I was hoping for, the ad-libs that Inaya improvised in-studio are so perfect, they are as important to our finished project as the melody and instrumental.

I am very thankful for our remix partners that Swishcraft brought along with this project:  Brian Cua, GSP, Macau, Larry Peace, and RhythmDB, you are amazing and I’m proud to have finished this project with you.  Please enjoy our version of “Go The Distance”!

The Funky Bangalore

Daddies Home!, the production team consisting of French producer / DJ Tommy Marcus (Paris) and American Producer / DJ Matt Consola (San Francisco), releases their third solo single, the wildly infectious, The Funky Bangalore.

Riding high on the Top 5 charting remixes for American diva Debby Holiday (“Love Lift Me Up”) and current 80s-themed release “Waves Crashing Down” by the UK’s Cactushead, Daddies Home!’s blend of upbeat tech house infused with disco themes and wild effects is injecting dance floors with wicked energy.

Wave Crashing Down

Cactushead returns with a brilliant ’80s-inspired release that comes with additional tech house, disco house, progressive, and 80’s Tech mixes. When asked what the inspiration was for this more personal track, he replied:

“I wanted to talk about how it’s okay not to be okay. That sometimes, we just feel crushed, and that’s okay, and we’re not alone. There’s no twist, just a hug and the promise of a hug from someone who knows. Once the catchy refrain appeared in my head, I couldn’t stop humming and singing it, quickly realizing that this was a message that needed to be shared and that it felt right to treat it with an intense 80s swirl and vocals that are more everyman and relatable” He went on to explain, “This is the voice of an ordinary person, just like you, showing you the solidarity you need to help you through the day. If it lifts one person’s spirits for just a moment, then it has done its job.”

(it’s gonna be) Epic!

“Oh honey…THIS is gonna be Epic!” is one of the staple lines Inaya Day sings in her new dance song “(it’s gonna be) Epic!”And with that line in mind, the song’s journey began. “Epic” writer Theo Farserotis approached this legendary powerhouse singer, with endless Billboard hits and millions of streams, knowing her voice would do the song justice. And when they got in the studio together, magic happened! Not only was the end result fierce, fun and catchy, but also a wink to each person wanting to have “the time of your life”.

“(it’s gonna be) Epic!” started as an idea in Theo’s mind every time he’d plan an outing with his friends, when they’d all yell at each other “oh this is gonna be epic!!”, a line that was gaining popularity left and right, in various situations, and had a fun, exciting, and sometimes mischievous ring to it. “This line deserves to be a song!” Theo thought, and on a Saturday night, getting ready to head out with close friends, the lyrics started coming to mind: “Someone found out the world was round, not flat, and tonight is gonna be something like that…”. That night “(it’s gonna be) Epic!” was born, and getting Inaya Day to be part of this creation was key. Not only did she have the voice and the talent, but she “got” the song and its message and she made it fly. Watching her record was mesmerizing, and the collaboration was a dream come true. It was…epic!

And then…there were the producers of the remixes. 8 incredibly talented, popular artists put their individual signature on each remix, providing such diverse sounds: Matt Consola, Craig J Snider, Edu Quintas, GSP, Peter Napoli, Eddie Martinez, and Luca Debonaire took the song to another level. Each spiced it up with their unique touch, and once again, the end result was epic!

“(it’s gonna be) Epic!” is a song from someone’s mind who believes that enjoying life, time with friends, creating unique memories, loving, and being happy is what makes everything be epic!

Be Your Strength

Producers Russ Rich & Andy Allder team up to bring the heat to the dance floor with their latest single “Be Your Strength.” The Club Mix uses an earworm of a vocal sample while the track is amplified with the pulse-racing energy of funky house beats. The sound is both a mix of nostalgia and fresh funky house vibes. Then the boys provide us with a major synth-heavy fat and chunky tech house mix that is darker but no less energetic. Expect this track to be an immediate floor filler.
