Show It

The Return of an American Icon in quite an unexpected way.

Betty Harris is an iconic American soul singer. Her recording career in the 1960s produced three Top 10 & Top 20 hit singles that made the U.S. Billboard R&B and Billboard Hot 100 charts: “Cry to Me” (1963), “His Kiss” (1964) and “Nearer to You” (1967). However, her reputation among soul music connoisseurs far exceeds her commercial success of the 1960s, and her recordings for the Jubilee and Sansu record labels are not only highly sought after in the 2000s by fans of Southern Soul, Northern Soul, and Deep Soul, but have been sampled to create new records and re-interpretations by artists including Christina Aguilera (2006’s “Understand). However, as her newfound popularity in the dance scene has skyrocketed, many European dance producers have been flooding the dance market with new tracks sampling Ms. Harris, most without permission, attempts to license and reimburse her in any way, and ALL without even giving her credit as the vocal sample. So what does an icon do? At the suggestion of legendary Swedish DJ/Producer StoneBridge who provides the releases premiere remix, she approaches America’s #1 LGBTQAI+ dance label to release an infectious and electrifying dance update to her 1968 #1 single “Show It”.

But first, a little backstory.

In 1964, Betty Harris switched record labels to Sansu, a New Orleans label, where she was produced by Allen Toussaint. Her recording with Sansu produced ten singles. Of those, only “Nearer to You”, an atmospheric, dramatic soul ballad, now considered one of the milestones of deep soul, achieved U.S. national chart success on Billboard. However, practically all of her recordings for Sansu, uptempo tunes and ballads alike, are considered prime specimens of the classic soul era.

Harris retired from performing in 1970 to raise a family. Without her permission or even a discussion, All of the Sansu recordings were compiled into an album released in the UK (but not the U.S.) in 1969, called Soul Perfection, an album which, in its vinyl format, although not extremely rare, commands relatively high prices of $200 to $300 today. A comprehensive CD compilation of Harris’s recordings, titled Soul Perfection Plus, was released in 1999 by the UK re-release label, West Side.

In 2005, Harris returned to the music industry after a long absence. Betty has been in a decades-long copyright battle over the ownership of her music. Allen Toussaint and Marshall Sehorn never paid her the royalties due her, and she now owns the sound recording copyrights for all the songs she recorded with Sansu, including “Nearer to You” and “Show It.”

Harris has made several public appearances in the U.S. and Europe, including the 2007 Porretta Soul Festival in Italy. And in March of 2013, Harris was part of a massive lineup of live artists for Willie Nelson’s 11th annual Luck Reunion. The event Luck, Antone’s and Gibson Presents: Strange Things Happening: A Tribute to Sister Rosetta Tharpe, 1915-1973 capped off the week of events at Luck on Sunday, March 19th with a Gospel Brunch like no other. A thoughtful and artist-packed tribute to the legendary Sister Rosetta Tharpe, the original “Soul Sister” who made an indelible impact on gospel and soul music. Line up includes The Binky Griptite Orchestra, with special guests Abraham Alexander, Amythyst Kiah, Betty Harris, Ruthie Foster, Valerie June, and many more.

In late 2022, Harris approached Sten Hallström, the legendary Swedish DJ, label owner, and Record Producer better known as StoneBridge. The man behind such iconic hit productions & remixes as 1993’s “Show Me Love” by Robin S, 2008’s Grammy Nominated Remix of “Closer” by Ne-Yo, “Gimme More” by Britney Spears, and his own Top 10 worldwide hits “Put ‘Em High”, “Take Me Away” and “Freak On” was approached by Harris to remix her 1968 single “Show It” into a modern dance track. From there, Harris reached out to American DJ, Producer, and Swishcraft Music label owner Matt Consola to remix, package, and release “Show It” in June 2023. The release will include StoneBridge, Matt Consola, and Dave Matthias Remixes.

Soul Singer Sues Sony

Love Lift Me Up

Stephen Jusko & DJ Blacklow are proud to announce the upcoming release of LOVE LIFT ME UP feat. Debby Holiday, a new PRIDE anthem coming in Summer 2023 on Swishcraft records!

Following the success of their recent covers of BELIEVE IT OR NOT, SHADOWS OF THE NIGHT, and THE WARRIOR, Jusko & Blacklow are finally releasing their first Original track together and are beyond honored to have the incomparably talented Debby Holiday join them on the project.

Written in collaboration with songwriter & vocalist Cameron Neilson, the dynamic trio set out to create an anthem that would resonate with queer audiences around the world at a time when LGBTQ issues are again under attack across our country.

“‘Love Lift Me Up’ is the kind of song I knew I could sink my emotions into because the words are what I stand for’,” says Holiday. “‘Embrace every color, shining brighter than ever’… Right now I can’t think of a better message to be sending out.”

Over a year in the making, LOVE LIFT ME UP is a dance floor track tailored for Pride celebrations around the world. In Texas alone, where Jusko resides, over 57 anti-LGBTQ bills have been introduced in the past year in the state legislature. And, according to the ACLU, over 120 anti-LGBTQ bills have already been put forth across the U.S. in 2023. Blacklow’s decades of work in LGBTQ activism (including several years recently working for GLAAD) have always translated into his music. And now Blacklow, Jusko, Neilson, and Holiday have together created a song that sets out to counter the forces that seek to divide us by uniting our community through the power of music.

The Original Mix of LOVE LIFT ME UP will drop on June 2nd, along with remixes from Dan Slater, Block & Crown, Matt Consola & Tommy Marcus, and Brett Oosterhaus. The second remix package – which contains Jusko and Blacklow’s VIP House Mix – will drop on June 23rd (heading into the main Pride weekend in the US), along with remixes from Toy Armada, Larry Peace, and a disco remix from Slater.

LOVE LIFT ME UP is a cornerstone of Swishcraft’s Pride Month 2023 releases, alongside “Find A Way,” another dynamic new single from Debby Holiday & Dirty Disco, which dropped in May 2023.

All This Time

French House Producer /DJ Tommy Marcus and America Producer/DJ Matt Consola team up as the team Daddies Home! and release their first single “All This Time.” A combination of Tech House, Nu-Disco, and Sleaze House, “All This Time” features A Prime Time Vocal Mix & Instrumental as well as a Late Night Tougher Club & Dub both produced by the Daddies Home! team.

Find A Way

In a world fraught with Helplessness and Despair, Dirty Disco & Debby Holiday deliver a timeless anthem of Hope & Strength.

Combining two of the most established and hard-working dance artists around was only ever going to have one outcome, the creation of a timeless anthem that shines a light on the ills of society while offering hope, strength, and a reason to dance. Multi-Billboard #1 Remix Producer Mark DeLange (aka Dirty Disco) and 17-time Top 5 to Top 20 Billboard charting artist Debby Holiday’s friendship gleams as bright as their passion for music.  Having worked together for the last two decades, together the two have enjoyed Billboard, Festival, and Radio success with hits including “Imagination,” “Was hat All It Was,” “Lift,” “Music is My Way of Life,” and the holiday classic “Let It Snow”. Not to mention countless Dirty Disco Remixes on numerous Debby Holiday Top 20 Billboard hits including “Love & Beats,” “I Can’t Stand The Rain,” “Girl From The Gutter,” “A Love Bizarre,” and her next upcoming 2023 release “Love Life Me Up” with Stephen Jusko & DJ Blacklow. Their eccentric and varied musical backgrounds have had a huge impact on this highly anticipated release, which signifies and stands for a lot more than just a dance record.

Written by Holiday and writing partner Jeff Fedak, Holiday was inspired to write the track in late May of 2020 after the murder of George Floyd, an African-American man who was murdered by a police officer in Minneapolis, Minnesota, during an arrest made after a store clerk suspected Floyd may have used a counterfeit twenty-dollar bill. As tensions in America were already mounting after the death of Breonna Taylor just two months earlier, and the world was in the grips of a global pandemic, hopelessness and despair seemed to be all around.

“The heart of Find A Way . . . It’s meant to just be … hope,” explains Holiday. “The desperation in the hearts of so many is palpable right now. You can feel this sense of helplessness. So I wanted a chant that people could sing that felt … GOOD to your soul.

Find A Way … the time is now – whatever it takes – Lift up your voice and … Find a way.” She goes on to say, “Sometimes even just a hint of hope is all we need to get us to that next step forward.”

Holiday approached DeLange and the two quickly produced a mammoth track complete with soaring synths and strings and sun-soaked chords that are topped with a hefty four-to-the-floor groove worthy of an Anthem meant to inspire soul-stirring optimism and the strength to fight back.

While the track was originally slated to be released in late 2022, as harmful and shameful anti-LGBTQAI legislation began to be passed across America, this anthem of strength and optimism began to take on a second meaning and it was decided that Find A Way would be Swishcraft Music’s cornerstone of releases for Pride Month 2023. Complete with additional Tech House, Mainstream, and Tea Dance remixes by Dave Matthias, Strobelight (aka Scotty K), and Matt Consola, Find A Way will quickly become a summer essential.

“Everyone deserves to live a joyful & free life – even if “some’ don’t understand you.” Says Holiday. “Writing songs about hope & strength & perseverance is one of the ways … I stand & speak up!”

Chosen Family

“Where do I belong?”

This question opens the touching and heartfelt anthem “Chosen Family,” and it is one that far too many LGBTQ+ people have had to ask themselves as they navigate existing authentically in a world that still largely sees them as “other.” The query pops up constantly in the lives of those who identify as part of the community, as they can so often feel uninvited, excluded, or unwelcome at school, in the workplace, or worst of all, at home. According to the Trevor Project, queer youth are “more than four times as likely” to have attempted suicide compared to heterosexual youth.

Shauna Jensen became aware of the Rina Sawayama 2020 hit ballad when good friend DJ Wayne G brought it to her. Wayne saw the track’s potential and eventually, the two decided to record a dance floor version of it to coincide with Sydney World Pride 2023.

Produced together with Wayne G and Andy Allder, It was an intercontinental project as Jensen recorded vocals in Australia, Wayne & Andy produced the music in the UK, and the three worked as a team over the magic that is the internet to create the final version. Along with the Original Club Mix, additional remixes will follow on Swishcraft Music.

Debuted live on March 5 at SWP Villages for Sydney World Pride 2023, Jensen will be performing the song in clubs around the globe as she kicks off her International tour at Sydney’s “I Remember House Party” on April 5, with a highlight being a performance in Bali at Karma Kandra in May 2023. Fight On (Parts 1 & 2)

RVT London Producer / DJ Cactushead (aka Ian Buchan) teams up with iconic London House vocalist Eddy Queens for an in-your-face, protest and empowerment club anthem that has already taken dance floors and festivals by storm when key Tastemaker DJs around the globe debuted the single New Year’s Eve at Iconic parties like BeefMince, Bearracuda, Daddy Issues, and White Party Bangkok.

“Fight On” is Cactushead’s call to arms for all those feeling overwhelmed by the daily clash of cultural, political, and emotional wars. “It’s an anthem of acknowledgment and empowerment”, explains Cactushead, “wrapped in a plea to find whatever inner strength you can in order to get through the day.”

For his debut authored track, Cactushead called on the incendiary talents of Eddy Queens. “Eddy’s story is incredible. She has been through it all and has come out fighting with a passion for life, a fascinating acting career, and an unforgettable voice,” Cactushead says, “and it’s her visceral take on the track which gives my message a level of authenticity I could only dream of”.

“Fight On” invites you to join a community of those who understand that there are no simple solutions – but where there is chaos, you may also find solidarity.

With an eclectic set of club remixes spread across two EPs, “Fight On” gets Disco House, Tech House, Circuit House, Deep House, and Big Room Remixes from industry heavy hitters and Remix Icons 7th Heaven, Dave Matthias, Brian Cua, GPS, Mel Merrett, and Brett Brisbois. “Fight On” is available everywhere music is sold or streamed.

Stronger

The latest single for French House Producer Tommy Marcus is an energetic, upbeat, and synthy-horn driven peak-hour track with an earworm of a vocal sample. American Tech & House producer, Dave Matthias, adds an additional take that is a darker, piano-driven tech house remix complete with additional classic house samples making “Stronger” a more laid-back, groovy jackin’ house production.
